HI All,

I brought a wonderful cat home from a shelter almsot two weeks ago. His name is Henry and he is slowly becoming used to our home.

He loves to chew on and lick plastic. I noticed this the other night when I was taking a shower and noticed the curtain moving back and forth. Lo and behold, little Henry was licking it. He also loves to chew on plastic garbage bags. He'll chew on them and then start vigorously licking them!

I make a noise and he stops. What else can I do to further stop this behavior. Is there some sort ofa chew toy out there that can help?

Thanks in advance

Now I know I am not the only person with a crazy plastic licking cat!
Charlie has been licking plastic for 13 years now, it’s so silly, he likes plastic laundry baskets, or wastepaper baskets, or those storage containers made from plastic.
I would say let it go, except for the plastic bag thing, that could be bad for his health if he swallowed a piece. Try rubbing Tabasco sauce on the spots he likes to lick, if he is normal he will dislike the taste and not lick it again. My cat loves Tabasco sauce and will lick it all up! They make Kongs for dogs; you may want to try one for your plastic chewing cat.

Bean loves to lick and chew plastic grocery bags so I have to be careful not to leave them around. He also likes to chew on cardboard. I sometimes leave cardboard boxes out for them to lay in and the sides are often full of little teeth holes from him.

Crunch, Crunch, Crunch!
I had a cardboard storage box under my bed and you would often hear Charlie making a crunching or a thumping (itching paws) noise. One day I needed something that was stored under the bed, so I pulled out the remains of a once cardboard box, it was hard to tell it was a box it was shredded, full of holes.
Another of my kookie cats; Kiva, liked to chew on the cordless phones antenna, and recently she got my husbands cell phone antenna too!

My cats also chew boxes, drywall, telelphone cords and even computer connection cords! I got a surprise when I unraveled my battery cord to find it come apart in two pieces - ended up costing me 80$ to replace.
