Hey everyone,
I have gotten a leash for my kitty. When i pu it on, she lays down and won't move. How can I get her to stop this? the leash isn't bad at all ts a 12ft leash. As soon as i attach it to her collar, she lays down and doesn't move. Also, people say it is cruel to walk a cat because they should be free. I'm also afraid that when I walk her outside people will laugh, and also she will get scared. Im not sure but i wouldn't let anything happen to my baby...(gigi). Help guy..thanks

Get her used to the collar or harness first. I recommend a harness with a leash b/c they can slip out of the collar if they work at it. Once she is used to it clip the leash to her and just let her drag it around the house. She will get used to it.

Hello

I took my cat for walks all the time. She did the same thing yours is doing. Need to have a harness for the cat not a collar with a leash. I just put a harness on her a little bit every day for about a week - then would attache the leash for about another week. Then we would gradually go out a little bit at a time. Now i say "do you want to go out side" and she sits till i put her harness on and we go outside for a little while - walk around the apt or house. Then she is ready to come in.

Just need to be patient

Carrie

I agree with the others... use a harness. Cats don't work well with collars and leashes like dogs.

I was afraid that people would laugh at me because I had my cat in a harness... but I refused to let my kitty out without one. We don't go for walks, though. She would never do that... we just walk around the yard so she can sniff stuff.

I let the cat walk around the house with the harness on for increasing amounts of time. If you do it, it's natural for the cat to not want to move and act weird. But, if you keep at it, your cat will probably get used to it and not realize that he's even wearing one.

I use a nylon harness that's very light weight. I think my cat would choose to go outside with the harness on than never get to go out. But, it did take some work to get her to that point.

Good luck.

One of my cats LOVES going for walks, using a harness and a lead just like a dog we would go for walks around the block, it was a great way to keep his weight down. We did get a few funny looks, and some people would stop us and ask us why, but if the cat likes it why not.
When I put a harness on my other cat she would just lay down, and not move. After about 3 months of her not moving I decided she was much happier indoors, did not want to go for walks.
I also have a young dog that is very excitable and will often jump up on people when they come to visit, but when you put a t-shirt (or live-jacket) on her she will just stand there still, when the t-shirt comes off she is bouncing off the walls!
