I have to take my one year old male cat for a blood test (b/c I think there is something wrong with him). Do you know how the Vet does this, does he have to shave his arm? Does it hurt the cat? I am a mess when I go to the vet....I just want to prepare myself of what the Vet will do before I go. If you know--please write back! Also, how long does it take to get results?? Thanks!! They don't shave them. They insert the needle usually on the lower front paw. The cat will need to be restrained - this can be easy or hard depending on the cat. It hurts as much as it would hurt you to get your blood drawn. It's like a pinch when the needle goes in, but once it is in it does not hurt. The cat will probably be more scared and upset about being restrained than about the small pain. How fast you get the results depends on what tests they are running and whether the vet has an in-house lab. If it's just basic tests and the vet has a lab, it should be 10-20 minutes to get the results. if they have to send it somewhere it will be a day or two. Good luck, and let us know how your kitty is doing.
