Okay, before y'all bust out the guns, I don't plan to have my cat declawed! She's okay w/ not scratching things and I wouldn't do it unless absolutely necessary.

What is the procedure? Do they put the cat under for the operation? How expensive is it? How long is the recovery time? Do cats really change after they are declawed? (behaviour/cuddling/etc).

They put the kitties under anesthesia. It is an amputation of the upper joints of the toe. www.declaw.com has some pretty graphic pictures. Imagine having your fingers chopped off at your first joint. Then they glue the skin togethor.
Some cats go through the procedure just fine. Other cats can develope fear biting behaivors and litter box problems. Its a nasty procedure and an awful thing for a kitty to go through. If you do a google search on declawing it will bring up a ton of useful information.
