Hi everyone, My kitten Charlie went to the vets thursday afternoon and now hes acting odd. The vet gave him his shots and some eye drops for an allergy he has. Also he gave me 2 pills to give him. One today and one in two weeks...(they are for tapeworms) He doesnt have another appt. for another 3 weeks to finish off his shots. Now im worried because now hes real tired and he hasnt really gottn up except to eat and use his box. Does anyone have any ideas as to why he is so tired? Im worried he got sick from one of his shots. He has been sick most of him young life and i hate to see him get sick again. I would really love any ideas. Also i have believed for a long time that declawing a cat is horrible but the vet i took Charlie to said that it would be better to declaw him. Im not sure if he said it because he is money hungry or not but it made me upset. Does anyone know why he would recommend declawing him?

My guess is your vet recommended declawing 1)because he is ingnorant about the traumatic effect it can have or 2)he wants to money- it is an expensive procedure.

He may just be a little sluggish b/c his immune system is working overtime from the vaccinations. The same thing happens to humans sometimes. If seems to have this kind of reaction, you might want to space them out so he doesn't get so many at the same time. That way his body wont be quite so overwhelmed. If he is still eating drinking and using the litter box I wouldn't worry too much. Give him a couple of days.

Have to agree there vaccinations and worming can make your cat very tired and not quite their normal bouncy self!

On the declawing front. It is very cruel so much so that it is actually a banned practice in the UK unless it is for medical reasons (like the cat can no longer retract its claws) I don't see how any vet can condone such and inhuman thing.

After vaccinations mine have also seemed to not feel well...I think this is fairly common for most cats.
As far as declawing Im curious as to how it was brought up at your vet visit...did you inquire about it or did the vet bring it up? Keep in mind that opinions about declawing will vary from vet to vet. Regardless, I would not have it done.

Hey,
Keep an eye on your the whole time. I had a small kitten and she became tired and had the same symthomps as yours. In addition she threw up yellow liquid. Mine died the next day. As soon as you see the kitten is not eating or drinking, don't wait too long to go to the doctor.

It is quite normal for cats/kittens to not feel "well" after their shots, mine usually sleep the whole day of and after. But also, one thing to keep in mind.....Some cats are allergic to their vaccinations, turns out my one kitty is. Cats can have an allergic reaction to a shot up to one month after they get the shot. My kitten was running a high fever, wouldnt eat or drink, and was very lethragic, did nothing but lay around and sleep. Take your cats temperature, and if he has a fever, take him back to ANOTHER vet.... I wouldnt go to the one you went to. For a vet to even suggest declawing, is just unthinkable to me.
