(Basil) at just 5 years old died within 5 days.
A perfectly normal cat who had given me and my family years of love and affection.

He seemed as though he had something stuck in his throat and when i took him to see the vet.The vet examined him ,he couldn't see anything, temprature was normal but he did have swollen glands in his throat.Gave him a shot of antibiotics and said he should be ok.
2 days later we were back at the vets as his conditioned worsened.Basil was kept in over night for an xray. The following day I was phoned and told that he may have somthing stuck in his airway and he was refered to a vetinary teaching hospital.I drove him the 40 miles with my son.The vet there did an ediscopic inspection and found his one of his lungs was leaking into the chest cavity and that an operation was needed to repair the lung. The operation went fine and although the lung was still leaking a bit the surgeon wasn't overly concerned.Within 6 hrs of the vets call to say things were going well Basil's condition had worsend and there was nothing more to be done and so i gave the vet permission to put him to sleep.
Since that tragic moment i have been searching for some explanation. There has been a post mortem and I await the results.
If anyone knows, or has heard of this condition please reply
Regards
John

I don't know what happened to your cat. I just wanted to say I am sorry. It is hard to lose a cat that you love. I know it is a hard decision to make, but your kitty is at peace now.

The only thing I can think of is that I was recently reading about plants that are poisonous to cats and some of them can cause airway problems. Could he have gotten in to a poison of some sort?

I'm also very sorry, I get so sad every time I read a post like this one. It's so frustrating that in this day and age we still can't always figure out what's happening to our kitties when they're not themselves.

I just try to remember that they are probably much happier with all their friends in heaven!

I'm very sorry for your loss. My dog died very suddenly last summer - healthy one day and gone 2 days later. We have no idea what happened to her, and I was too heartbroken to have a necroscopy done.

I'm so sorry and please let us know if you find anything out, so perhaps we can protect our own kitties.
