I have a 3 month old kitten that was abandoned previously. We have had him for about 5 weeks. We went out of town this past week and he hardly ate anything. We have been back since Sunday night and he still isn't eating much. I'm concerned by his lack of eating. Anyone have any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

Since he was abandoned, I imagine that your going away stressed him out a lot (not trying to make you feel guilty, just an observation!). Is he drinking? That is more crucial for cats than eating. You might want to take him to the vet to make sure he's ok. If he checks out, have you tried canned food, warmed slightly in the microwave? This makes them smell stronger and more appealing (to a cat anyway). Cats can become anorexic if they go too long without eating, it's as if they forget how after a while. You may want to smear a bit of food around his mouth as he will lick it off, this might 'kick start' his eating again. Good luck.

You can also give him a vitamin paste like nutrical if he really is refusing to eat.
