Hi, I recently switched my 1 year old boy cat from Science Diet Nature's Best Kitten (ocean fish) food to Sci. Diet Nature's Best Adult food (Chicken). I noticed within the past month that he has been on it, he has slimmed down quite a lot. I took him to the vet who said he looks fine, and not to worry. But I am! I never gradually switched him, I just emptied one and filled it w/ another. maybe that was my mistake?!! Any suggestions....Help!!! I am really worried!!! (thanks)

Perhaps he was overweight on the kitten food? Kitten food has more calories and fat than adult food, so if he was eating too much of it he could have put on a few extra pounds.

I would watch him and track his weight. Every few days or so, step on the scale by yourself. Then pick up the cat and step on the scale again. Subtract to find the cat's weight. (Insert image here of me doing this with a growing puppy...my husband laughs at me when I do it now - it's an armful of dog.)

If he continues to lose, I would call the vet and ask what to do. He might need another check-up at that point to make sure he is okay. If his weight stablizies, then he is probably fine.

Also, make sure you are feeding him an appropriate amount. The amount given on the bag is an estimate. Ask your vet what a good target weight for him would be, and try to maintain him at that weight.
