I used to let my cat (neutered male, 5 yrs. old) sleep with me, until a few years ago when he peed on my bed (fortunately the mattress wasn't ruined as there were multiple layers of blankets on the bed). This was partially my fault because I wasn't cleaning his litter box every day. Since that time I clean his litter box daily and make sure that the area surrounding the litter box is clean. He is allowed on the bed whenever I am home, but I still don't let him sleep with me at night, and he is not allowed in the bedroom when I'm not home. Ideally I would like to give him access to the bedroom all of the time but I'm not sure how to do this. Now for the current problem: 1.He spends a great deal of time sniffing around I am not sure how to solve this problem short of getting a plastic cover to put over the bed or trying to train him to not go on the bed (unlikely, since he spends a lot of time there). Could it be that after he urinates that there is a "little bit left" that causes a stain on the sheet? Is he spraying or becoming territorial in some way? My goal is to be able to give him 24/7 access to the bedroom without feeling anxiety about having to replace an $800 mattress. Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Some of the smell may be remaining on the sheets. Try putting some pet odor cleaner in the wash with the sheets. I have used a product called simple solution in the wash with blankets and clothes that have been peed on. It hasn't hurt the fabric. http://www.petsmart.com/cat/shopping/stain%5F%5F%5Fodor%5Fcontrol/products/product%5F8157.shtml They changed the label, but I think it is the same thing. I'm sure there are other products you can use. IP: Logged |
