i have a female 2 year old cat, healthy goood weight etc. Two weeks before she was due for her fixing, (we lived in an apartment before the last few months) I have had kittens a long time ago but it seems that she is huge and the pregnancy is going on forever, what r some signs of impending birth???? I have heard of flowering, expression etc, but they are all just idea's, does anyone know any real sign's cause i want to be there to watch and cause shes tiny, i may need to help out...... and i know so dont tell me not to assisst if not completely nessessary, just when my other cat had babies it was 7 years ago and i only had one child, now i have four so i more ready with heating pad and clean towels i can be the better, ty for any GOOD hearted coment. I have had kittens before, and I have helped deliver both kittens and puppies. Even in a difficult labor. Your cat will start acting a little different a couple of days before the kitties come. She will start hiding more, she will eat less, and sleep alot more. She may try to get outside so keep close tabs on her. She might pace alot before labor, as if trying to walk off the first contractions. As they get stronger, she will probably cry. Don't panic, this does not mean there is a problem.. Feel free to watch her. I always have cut the cords and taken the sacs away because they cause diarrhea. Some people say that the cat will eat them for nutrition, this is not true, they eat them to get rid of the smell of the birth which in the wild would attract predators, a natural instinct. Make her up a nice place to deliver. It should be someplace dark, and out of the way of household traffic. but even if she does not deliver there, she might let you move the kittens there after a couple hours. Chances are that she will not have her kittens where you want her to. My cat just had to have her's on my bed. Which was fine with me, I just put down some plastic and some towels. hope some of this helps. Good luck and don't worry. IP: Logged |

Hi thank you for the reply although Missy has not yet had her kittens yet, she has indeed been sleeping alot more, and often in the special spot we have made for her, and she sems to be pretty concerned about cleaning herself whenever she is not sleeping. She has become increasingly comfortable and sucky with me, constantly laying all over me looking for more and more attention, so i am quite confident that she will come to me when ready or at least notify me in some way.
