A week and a half ago one of my cats just wasn't acting right and started makin a strange sound. Off to the vet we went. The poor little thing had a blocked bladder. He's ok now, but has antibiotic pills he needs to take for two more weeks. Last week my roommate was here and together we could give him the pill. This week my roommate is out of town and I'm finding it extremly difficult to give the cat the pill by myself. I got one of those "pill gun" thingies that look like a syringe that you put water and the pill in. It's still very hard. I just HATE holding him down and stressing him out. Now he won't even be in the same room with me. He is such a loving and sweet natured soul. He usually stays right beside me, now he runs from me. I can't stand this. I know he needs his meds, but I'm not sure if I can keep putting him through this. I know he is terribly stressed. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if you've tried this- wraping in a towel first? I used that and a pill 'syringe' on my cat who hates having his mouth messed with, and it worked well. The first couple times are tricky, but then you both get the hang of it. My syringe didn't hold water though, just the pill, and you put the syringe a good bit in the mouth and quickly 'shoot' it in. Giving a treat right afterwards helps for next time. Oh, and always praise a lot afterwards, which I'm sure you do!

Could you tell me exactly what your kitty's symtoms and behavior was that led you to the vet? Mine sometimes makes noises during the night when he's in his box, but not other times, and he's not acting any different.

Thanks, and good luck with kitty's antibiotics.

Thanks, I'll try the towel thing. I do give him treats right after, which his mother, brother and sister love!

As for as symtoms, he just wasn't acting right you know? He was very still. And the noise was kinda like a moan with a whimper if you can imagine that combination. It wasn't a noise I'ver heard before, so, I think that combination alerted me to something being wrong.

I hope all is well with yours.

If there is just one person I have found that the best way is to kneel over the cat. If you angle your feet the cat can't back out and you hold him so he can't go forward. The towel never really worked with my cats, they can always get their paws out. I kneel and hold their head up with one hand and insert the pill with the other. You might try crushing the pill into soft food, that would be less stressful for him. Check with the vet first to make sure the antibiotic will still be effective if crushed.

Thanks, and, everything must be o.k. because he's running around and playing, even more than usual. I think it's the cooler weather.

Hope your pilling attempts are sucessful!
