We received an orphaned kitten about a week and a half ago. Boo is about 5 weeks now and is doing very well. He likes to play with us, but is sometimes agressive (we call him "evil kitty" in jest!) He bites (not too hard) and scratches our hands. When we walk around the apartment he likes to chase us down and attack our feet! It is so cute when he does this becuase he thinks he's tough. I know it is normal for kittens to play like this, but when he gets bigger this may become a problem and stop being so cute. Will this stop with age or does he need to learn? When is he old enough to learn that he is not allowed to bite our hands or scratch? And, how do we teach him not to? Thanks. IP: Logged |

While it is typical kitten behavior and some may go away, it is better to teach him from the beginning what is and is not acceptable. I would start by not letting him bite or scratch when you are playing with him. If he is getting too rough, end the play session. It shouldn't take very long for him to realize that if he plays too rough he doesn't get to play at all. Also, you can play with him with toys (socks, balls, string, whatever) and not your hands, so that he learns hands are not for clawing and biting. As for the pouncing on the feet - I think a lot of this goes away with age.
