I have noticed there is some sort of fly or fleas in the cats' litterbox. At first there was only one or two, but there were a lot more last time I scooped the box. They are about the size of a fruit fly, and brown in color. I think they fly, so this wouldn't be fleas would it? I can't find any evidence of fleas on the cats. They don't scratch a lot either. The cats used to get Advantage and they got Revolution last time. I don't think I missed a month, but I may have when I ran out of the Advantage. We also have a new puppy who has been with us about 2 months. She is on Sentinel and Frontline. There is no evidence of fleas on her either, and she has been to the vet recently and was given a clean bill of health. The little flies first showed up before we got the puppy. Could these little flies be due to worms of some sort? Any ideas?

Do you think it could possibly be gnats?? During the summer, I had a problem outside with gnats near/in the trashcan where I used to throw away the dirty litter. After that fiasco, I now use the litter locker to prevent that problem. What you described sounds like it could be gnats. They are brown, they fly, and they would definitely attract to some place like a litter box if they were to get inside your house. That's the only thing I can think of, maybe someone else will have some other input. Good luck! IP: Logged |

Also forgot to mention, gnats reproduce in mass quantities. Once they start, there's a ton of them everywhere. They're nasty, annoying little creatures, and hard to get rid of since they multiply so fast. I sprayed the outside of my house with bug spray a few times, and finally got rid of them. I am not sure what you could spray inside your house to kill them, that would be safe for you and your cats. But if it is gnats, find something fast - because like I said, they reproduce in mass quantities VERY fast. [This message has been edited by Mandy (edited 10-20-2003).] IP: Logged |

Aren't gnats sort of traingular in shape? These things are not. I'll have to try to find pictures of gnats online.
