I just got akitten that was taken from her mom way too early. She won't eat or drink and roots around looking for her mom to suckle. how and what should I get for her to eat and what do I use to feed her (bottle ,Saucer, etc.) ? Thanks IP: Logged |

From what I've read on here recently, eye droppers/bottles w/ small nipples. You feed them every 2 hrs or something. Check out some of the other threads with titles like "my kitten wont eat", they are pretty helpful. Good luck! ------------------ IP: Logged |

It depends on how old the kitten is. Most likely it can eat on it's own but would like to suckle instead. Try getting her to lap up soft food mixed with water, or a kitten formula like KMR. If you put a bit on her nose she might get the idea when she licks it off. If not try a kitten bottle or a needleless syringe. I have always had the most luck with the syringe. A vet should give you one for free or 15 cents or something. If you have to use the bottle or syringe, feed her a kitten formula like KMR. It depends on the age by 4 or 5 weeks they should eat every 4-6 hours depending on their size. Get her a stuffed bear or something that she can cuddle with, the suckling may just be for comfort. Once they are 3 weeks old they are old enough to eat on their own. I had a hand raised kitten who wouldn't eat on her own until she was almost 6 weeks though, so it does depend on the kitten. I would also leave hard kitten food down (I recommend Purina, it's the easiest for them to eat). They are very curious and she might try to eat it. IP: Logged |

what we did when our friends found the kitten and we babysat it, well, they couldn't get it to drink the milk, let alone out of a saucer! We gave it a little from a dropper, then she got so greedy because she hadn't eaten in so long that she began drinking out of teh saucer, because the dropper was too slow! IP: Logged |
