My at who is 10 yrs. had stomach surgery 10/7 to remove a piece of plastic 1" in size and 1/2" wide. He could not pass this and had to have surgery. Before his surgery he vomited constantly. Took him to the vet and found this problem. After surgery he became dehydrated so back to the vet (almost lost him). Now he drinks water and that is all. The vet said to feed him soft foods since his surgery but he won't eat at all. I have tried to sit with him and hand feed him the food, but all he does is gag. Then I force more and he starts to take the food for only a little bit. My 3-4 tries is all he is interested in. Then he jumps away. He is used to eating only dry foods, Iams, but the vet said he cannot have dry foods yet. Does anyone know how I can get my cat to eat or what tricks can I use to intice him to eat. He is becoming weak and skinny. He is constantly making motions that he is trying to swallow, but the vet says this is normal and will go away in time. I'm so afraid I will loose my cat if I cannot get him to eat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. IP: Logged |

poor kitty - how about some mashed up cooked chicken or even to start with some chicken juice, boil some chicken and use the broth with a little mashed chicken in it (once it cools). I this doesnt work, I would get the vet to do intranvenous feeding until he is ready to eat. or try other ground cooke meats like steak if chiocken wont work Good luck IP: Logged |

Thank you for your suggestion. I shall give it a try. He now has tuna with oil. Took him to the vet this eve and vet said he is doing fine. If he doesn't eat by the time he gets his stitches out from his surgery, which is next Wednesday, the vet said he could insert a tube in his throat and we can feed him thru the tube until he eats on his own. I really don't want the vet to do this. So I will continue to force feed and take your suggestion. Thank you so much. IP: Logged |

glad to hear he is eating the tuna, that is a good thing to give when a cat wont eat. Honeybear IP: Logged |

What about something like babyfood chicken? Is that okay to give him?
