i just adopted a cat approximately two months ago and he has vomitted at least 2 times each week. he is 2 years old. i think it is something more serious than feeding issues because i feed him small amounts several times each day. i also pre measure the maximum amount of food he gets each day. does anyone have any advice?

If you let your cat out, check where he visits. Our cat was frequently sick until I discovered the neighbour feeding him eggs and cream every day!

Hi,
Chronic vomiting in any animal should be checked by a vet..

There could be a stomach problem, There could be a blockage.
It aslo may be an allergy to the food. There is alot of reasons that this may be happening. Please have your cat checked by a vet asap..

Thank you guys for your help. I am taking him to the vet this afternoon. I was also doing some research and it could also be worms or bowel disease. He does not go outside at all. Previous to me adopting him at the SPCA he was a stray, so that might have something to do with it as well. We also brought him to the vet right after we adopted him and had a world of tests done on him, many more than the standard checks for post adoption, and he came out clean. I will keep you all posted.

Well, we're back from the vet. Always a scary situation for the both of us. The vet was honest and said there are alot of reasons for a cat to be vomiting so it is hard to judge. He did a very thorough check for blockages and said that he did not feel one. He also checked his temperature, tongue, etc. Everything was fine. So he decided to do some bloodwork and urinalysis. I have yet to get the results. He also, recommended a low allergen food to see if there something in the formula we were giving him previously. We were giving him Hill's Prescription diet dental formula. The stuff he recommended is the same brand but different formula. I will keep you posted with the test results and how the food works out.

Hi, Glad to hear there was no blockages and his temp is normal.

I have never been a big fan of hill's products i have always used Iams Or Eukanuba my cats where allergic to hill's.

My fingers crossed for you that his blood work comes back normal and that it is just an allergy to the food....

Our kitty started vomiting about once a week, and it turned out that she had a hairball. After giving her a hairball elimintion cream (Petromalt) every day for a week, the vomiting completely disappeared and hasn't occured for over 3 months now. We give her a little Petromalt once a week (as it recommends on the package) and I think that has been helping to prevent further hairballs. Not sure if you or the vet has considered hairballs as a potential source of the vomiting, so I thought I would mention it.

Good luck with your kitty and I hope that you get good results from the vet!

Well, Ivan has not thrown up since we changed his diet. He is now on a Low Allergen prescription diet. This is a good sign but he now has poo problems. His poo is still soft. I thought it might just be the diet change but it has been this way for a long time. We gradually changed his diet over a week as recommended by the doc. If anyone has any advice please let me know. I really don't want to have to change his diet again. Thanks everyone!
