I have a friend whose cat has had two urinary tract infections. What is a good food to help keep her from getting one again? IP: Logged |

I use a prescription diet that you can only buy at a vet. Science Diet has one, but the one I get is Purina CNM UR-Formula. I hear they are really quite similar, it just depends on what your vet has or recommends. My kitty has not had another infection since he went on this food over 11 years ago (probably closer to 12 years). This from a web site about urinary tract infections in cats: "To prevent lower urinary tract disease, your cat should be fed a diet that is low in magnesium, phosphate and calcium - the very minerals that make up the crystals in the first place. The diet should also make the urine slightly acidic to dissolve the crystals in the bladder. " Good luck to your friend's kitty!
