My 11 year old cat had surgery for mammary tumors almost 3 weeks ago. After she came home she began recovering well, eating, drinking, alertness, etc. After 10 days she had her stitches out & the next day wasn't doing well. She was sleeping all the time she stopped eating completely. I took her to the vet & they retested her blood (her pre-surgery blood work was excellent) & told me she had hyper-thyroid disease & gave her medication. SHe still refuses to eat it has been over a week now. I have been back to the vet 3 more times, she is now on thyroid meds, 2 antibiotics, anti-nausea & appitite stimulant. I have been force feeding her mushy cat food with a syringe every 2 hours for 3 days. I don't know what to do. She is becoming jaundiced & having liver problems from not eating. Nothing seems to be helping although she keeps down whatever food I can get her to swallow. I will appreciate any advice or has heard of a similar problem? I am losing hope. IP: Logged |

I was waiting for someone with experience to reply since I have seen discussion on this. Some people have had luck with baby food (the kind without onion), or tuna. One person put tuna juice in a syringe and it gave their cat a taste for food again. You might consider some nutrical if you cat needs more nutrients. It's a gel that has a lot of nutrients in it. You can get it at pet stores. IP: Logged |
