My cat, a bombay, is approx 4 years old.
he has swollen feet,
and very bad lip abraisions.
he has pimples around his nipples, tail, neck, ears, and face.

He is on prednizone(sp)

He was getting better, now has turned down to worse.

When we lived in VA he was fine, no skin problems.

we now live in NY and he is rappidly getting worse

vet its getting rather expencive at this point

anyone have any suggestions onm how to help him?
he now has glass food bowls incase allergy to plastic is possible
and is on science diet sensitive skin

What kind of food was he on before? I would switch to a super simple formula of food like Sensible Choice Chicken & Rice. See if that helps. He could be having a really bad reaction to corn in the Science Diet. If he gets worse, have him checked by the vet and find a pet allergy specialist. My parents have a dog that is allergic to everything under the sun. He chews his hair off and gets hot spots from fleas, pollen, grass, weeds, whatever. That brings up something else. If there is something in the New York air that isn't in Virginia, that could be it too. I would find an allergist.

This is another suggestion, but requires a little bit of research on your part. I have my cats on a raw diet. It consists of raw meat and vegetables. No grains. There are quite a few brands out there now like Nature's Variety Prairie, Steve's Real Food, Essence, Amore, etc. A lot of people have turned to this rather than processed kibble and wet canned food because their animals can't seem to digest it properly, or end up having skin problems with it. A raw diet will not give your animal E coli or salmonella. Their stomachs have a much higher pH than ours, which will kill these bacteria without a problem. I'm not sure what is on the east coast, but I would find a natural pet food store that sells raw and ask them to help you out with your problem. A lot of people aren't comfortable with this and a raw diet isn't for everyone. I would check it out and give it a shot. Personally, it has worked great for me and a lot of my co-workers.

He was on some cheap 99 cent food my parents got for him while I was away (haveing a baby) Befor that, whiskas w/ savory nuggets, he was on science diet when we were in VA with no problems with him, so I was hopeing the diet change was the problem,

His lip (looks like a rodent ulcer) is still detiorrating(sp) by the day, hes moved into his new home, (been here about a week) and no progress.

I heard that lamb and rice is a better "bland" hypo allergenic food sorce, any oppinion there?

My dog gets sores all over his mouth area and his feet especially get red and irritated from seasonal allergies. He takes hydroxyzine with very good results. He can also take Benadryl, but it doesn't work as well. Maybe he is allergic to something in New York that wasn't in VA.

Im hopeing its seasonal, when we first got him (in ny) he was fine but always had this natuaral cough. then he started with the pimples around his head and ears, neck ect. they normally got bad at the mid time summer, into fall, but we moved he had no allergies for 2 years (aside from the cough) then we moved back and now his lip has started and his paws,

Im wondering what could be causeing it.

if it stays bad I may give him to my mother in law (in va) and see if it goes away again, Id hate to give him up but I dont want him suffering, and tho he doesnt appear to be, I am.

In some cases with cats, lamb & rice can help, but lamb isn't generally the most digestible protein for cats. This is more of a solution with dogs. I would do just chicken & rice with no other proteins or grains.

I would try treating him for allergies, if it doesn't work you will know thats not the problem. I highly recommend hydroxyzine, if it is too expensive where you are try benadryl. Ask the vet about the dosage, but you need to make sure it is high enough. If the dose isn't high enough it wont work. My 70 lb dog took 2 50mg tablets of hydroxyzine twice a day.

Do you use tap water?

My friend went through all sorts of skins problems (scaling, bumps, raw spots) with her dog and used all sorts of meds and special foods before she found out it was the tap water. She bought purified bottled water and her dog's skin cleared up in no time.

Tap water.... I didnt think of that.... Ya know, That could be it, the different water from VA to NY, that could explain why hes got the problem only in this area, and not in any place we lived in va....

Ya think Boiling the water befor its given to them will help, or bottled water???

Is he by any chance white? I just had a similar problem with one of my boys. The vet said it is a condition fairly common in white cats. Essentialy, his immune system is in overdrive. He gave him a shot of cortizone (Shlomo gave the vet a hiss and bared his little teeth) and it seems to be helping. Just thought I'd suggest it.

Whatever it is, I hope he's feeling better soon.

I wish I could offer advice... just some "comfort" a cat’s unknown "disease".

I adopted the sweetest 10-year cat 6 months ago from a colleague who reported the cat had no health concerns, except an untreatable chronic sneeze.

2-1/2 months ago she developed a huge "owee" on her paw and face. Hundreds of dollars later it was determined she has an allergy. After treatment with pred & antibiotics, it "went away". Just last night I took her the vet (more $$$). No one knows what the allergy is (food, litter).

My family and I are very attached to this cat and don’t know what to do.

Have you had any success?

I don't have any experience with cats' skin problems, but do have some knowledge of tap water and such.

Boiling tap water does remove chlorine and kills bacteria. But it doesn't do much about minerals or rust or countless otherthings in the water.

If you suspect water is your problems I'd buy a water filter as it is much cheaper in the long run than bottled water. I use filtered water for my cat because I hate the taste of the tap water in my house and want my kitty to enjoy the same clean water I like.

Hope your kitty is improving. Also I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a week or so for results to be visible with any change.
