We have had a new cat for 4 days now, and she was fairly sick when we got her. She is 1 year old, though somewhat small. At first she hid, and did not eat or drink. The vet decided she was dehydrated as well, gave her fluids and antibiotics. We have also been giving her antibiotics at home. He suggested that we try to support her drinking by trying to get water in her mouth with a syringe, but that has not worked very well. We elected instead to mix water with her wet food. In the last few days she has perked up, and eats everything we give her including wet food/water slurry and dry kibble. She is playing and so forth, but as far as we can tell, she still will not drink. She just sniffs it. We have tried different bowls, temperatures, and filtered and unfiltered.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We are stumped.

That is weird. The good thing is that she is getting enough water through the soft food. If it was my cat I would try giving her something that she has to drink that would be more tasty than water. I would try KMR, or another mothers milk replacer since cow's milk isn't very good for them. She would have to lap it up, and it might teach her to drink again. You might have to put a bit on her nose for her to get the taste of it. I'm stumped too, but thats what I would try.
