Hi,

I just tried to give my cat a de-worming pill. After trying to hide it in food and treats, I gave up and tried to pop the pill down his throat. As soon as it got in his mouth, he started foaming at the mouth like crazy! Has this happened to anyone before? Is this just a reaction to the taste of the pill? It was very strange!

One of my cats does the same thing. I took him to the vet once and he needed some medicine. The vet said oh they love the flavor of this, they eat it right up. As soon as he put the liquid in my cats mouth he started frothing and spitting it out. It really was funny, especially since the vet had been talking about how much cats like it. He still froths and trys to get the pill up. I think the foaming/frothing is from him trying to get the pill out. I have to put it far enough back that he has to swallow it. Pill poppers are great for that.

Thanks for your response! Do you think if he frothed at the mouth that means he didn't get all the medecine? I couldn't find a pill on the floor so I'm hoping it actually got in his tummy.

I think if you didn't see the pill then he got it all down. When they froth I think they are trying to spit it up, if it doesn't come up I think they get it all down. Anyway I would assume he got it all if I didn't see the pill come out of his mouth. The only way I can get my cats to not spit the pill up is to use a pill popper or to put it in the back of their mouth and hold it mostly closed until they swallow. Cats are very tricky with pills!
