My cat just was Diagnosed with FIV. For those of you who have any experience with FIV + Cats could you please give me some information. My vet said my cat may live for months or years just depending. If you had a cat or have a cat with FIV is it on a treatment??

You may be interested in joining this yahoo egroup: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FivCats/

This is a discussion group of people that have FIV cats. I think you can get lots of info. on treatments and experiences there.
Good luck.

My wonderful cat Charlie Brown was diagnosed with feline leukemia two weeks ago. The doctor said he had a full blown case and that I should have him put down. I brought him home so I would have a little time with him before I had to let him go. He was really sick for two days ,but now he is eating, playing and acting like his old self again. I can't bring myself to have him put to sleep when he doesn't seem sick at all. Please if someone has had this happen to them,I could use some advice. IS there a discussion group for people with felv cats?

Lucky1, don't put Charlie down if he's come right. Most cats with felv don't survive the initial stage but if they do then they can live a few more years if they are lucky. You will have do keep him inside for now on though so he dosn't infect other cats. You will need to learn all you can about this disease so you know what signs to look out for about his health, etc. Good luck.

Tana, FIV+ cats can live many years before the virus goes 'live'. My vet said 7 years isn't unheard of. I know that your cat will have a harder time fighting off illness, but can still do very well. I think there are human drugs they can give the cats when the virus starts getting on top of them, so don't give up. Good luck too.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat's illness! Did the vaccination fail to protect her? Does that happen often? Can indoor cats get it if they never go outside?

Thanks,
Jamiya

Thanks for the awesome form

My cat was just diagnosed yesterday, he is general a inside cat but loves to go outside and my husband on a few occasion let him out. Unfortunely he came back with bite marks the couple of times that he did escape It gives me hope knowing that their are cats that live for years after being diagnosed.

~ Lucky1 i would not put you cat down if he seems like he has a new lease on life and not in pain don't jump into putting him to sleep. I wish more vets would be more optomistic about animals with These illnesses

Lucky, Im very sorry to hear about your cat. Yes, there is a discussion group for Felv also. It does'nt appear to be as active as the FIV one but Im sure you can get some help there.
