I have a 1-2 month old kitten that I got from a shelter 2 weeks ago. She was fine up until 5 days ago when she devloped diarreah. She would scoot herself across the carpet (our steam cleaner worked overtime But she still seemed generally Ok besides that. Still eating, and drinking. Then the past 2 days she has gotten real lethargic and skinny. She still eats, but she seems to stick her face right in the food, maybe because she cant hold her head up too well. No vomiting. I took her to the emergency vet and he said she was very dehydrated and had barely any muscle mass left. Her temperature was 98.1 degrees F. He gave her fluid underneath the skin to absorb tonight and a shot of something for diarreah, and I am to take her to the vet in the AM. I am not wondering if she will make it through the night. She is wrapped in a towel on my lap now, eyes barely open, ocasionally purring, but not moving at all. She looks like she is slipping away. Any thought on what may be wrong with kitty?

I would say the only thing you can do for her tonight is keep her warm and comfortable. Let her body take in the shots the vet gave her, which could be why she's so doped-up acting. She'll probably want to sleep alot, but if she sleeps for too long, you might want to wait her so everything stays active.

Sorry I can't provide any better help. Taking her to the vet will let you know whats wrong for sure.

kitty is better today, temp is back to normal. But she is still not well. I brought her to the vet and the vet gave her some more fluids and gave me some antibiotics. We still do not know what is wrong. The vet says it is probably some bacterial infection. Today all she is doing is sleeping and getting up to eat. She is eating alot, which is good, but still not drinking any water. We are putting water in her canned cat food. Any thoughts on how to get her to drink water?

Last night we kept her in a towel and put the towel under a heating pad. It did not look good, but I think you are right, that she needed to sleep and let the drugs the vet gave her work.

Hopefully she'll pull through. she is so young.

Most canned foods are about 80% water so that may be why she's not drinking much. I think adding more water to her canned food is a good idea if you want her to drink more.
Glad she is doing better.

I'm so happy to hear she's getting better!

If your kitty starts throwing up or getting diarrea, try adding some flavorless pedialyte to her can food...our vet told us to do this when our pets are sick.

So I would just keep doing what you're doing. Letting her sleep is good. As long as she's eating and getting her water through that, I'm sure she'll pull through.

Here's a tip I learned while Misty was very very sick: Don't give up. Don't let yourself think it's hopeless. If you give up on them, they give up the will to live.

Give her all her medicine, keep her warm, let her sleep alot, make sure she's eating and getting water, and lots and lots of TLC, and I'm sure she'll pull through!

Best Wishes!
