I found three orphaned kittens ...probably 4 weeks old as they have just cut teeth. One has diareaha and keeps dry heaving and throwing up. This morning its eyes were stuck closed. It does not eat and is very weak but still has a sweet playful personality for the short time it is awake.

If you FOUND them and didn't adopt them please take them to the vet as kittens have very weak immune systems. If you can't afford that at least get them to a shelter.

Yes, taking them to a shelter would be a good idea if you don't have the money because they would take them to the vet...

In the mean time though, make sure you keep them warm.
-Get a hot water bottle and wrap a thick towel around it, then put it and the kittens in a box.
-You may want to try feeding them a kitten formuala - NO COWS MILK!
-If their eyes are stuck together from discharge, just take a warm, damp cloth and oh-so-gently rub their little eyes.
-It's normal for very young kittens like that to have diarrhea. It's because all they have in their system is their mother's milk and their newly-developed digestive systems can't turn it into firm stool yet (I know this because of the litters of puppies I have had).
-I found with the orphaned young kittens that gently messaging their backs makes them feel better (like a mother licking them!)
-Also, when you feed them, a few minutes after they get done eating, you need to message around their lower belly to stimulate secretion.

I hope everything goes well and that they survive!

-Britt

Orphaned kittens often need acquire infections and need antibiotics. This is especially true if they did not get very much of their mothers milk, because they also get antibodies from her. Diarrhea can be very serious in a kitten, although it could simply be from a change in diet. A kitten with diarrhea or who is lethargic and throwing up needs to see a vet. I found several oprhaned kittens and also found a vet who was very nice. She would see them between other patients and only charge me for the actual medicines she prescribed. She recognized I was trying to help them. If you want to keep them you can try to find a good vet like this, or take them into a vets office or local humane society where they can be taken care of.

Like the above message states, kittens must be kept warm with a water bottle, or heating pad. They also need kitten formula such as KMR, which is available at vet's offices and petsmart or petco. I use a needless syringe instead of a bottle to feed them, as I have had better success with syringes. 4 week old kittens need to eat about every 4 hours unless they are extremely small or weak, then they need to eat more often. It is a lot of work to care for them, but it is also rewarding.
