Someone Please help!! My 11 year old (indoor only) female Siamse cat "Cinnamon" has stopped eating. I noticed that she appeared to not be feeling well a few weeks ago but at first I thought she was just having allergy problems (she has a lot of those). Then I noticed that she was hiding under my bed at all times & not really being sociable. Finally I found that she haden't been eating, so I took her to the vet this past Thursday. The vet performed a physical & did blood work. The test came back that she was pretty dehydrated, she was anemic, and she may be having problems with her liver. The vet gave her an injection of IV fluids, antibiotics, & Vitamin B & she sent me home with some Amoxacilian. I've been giving Cinnamon her med's twice a day like she is supposed to have & she seems to be doing slightly better but she still not eating anything. She seems a bit perkier & she's not hiding under the bed as much but I am very concerned about her eating problem. I've tried switching dry-food brands, different canned food brands/flavors, treats, tuna-fish, & milk but she won't touch any of it. I force fed her a little bit of canned food & some milk, as well as some high-protein vitamin supplement but that's not working too well because she spits a lot of it back out. She has lost a few pounds of her body weight as well. The vet couldn't give me an answer as to why she wasn't eating & she really didn't give me a complete diagnosis or treatment options. I spent $200 at the vet that night & I can't really afford to take her back right now. Do you think I should try to get a second opinon from another vet? Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? I'm really at a lose right now, I don't know what to do. I don't want to loose my baby-girl, but I don't want her to suffer either. Someone please help me!!!!

I'm glad the the Amoxcillin seems to be working, do have a syringe without the needle? put the liquid supplement in the syringe (no needle) and squirt it in the back of her mouth. if you do that a couple of times, it may work..she also might start eating again when she feels a little better.
Lots of luck!

Hi

I hope your cat has improved since you last posted your note.

I tend to be uncomfortable when a doctor (vet or human) is unable to give me a diagnosis (even a speculative diagnosis) or treatment options. If I was in your position, I would get a second opinion. See if you can find a vet that would let you utilize a payment plan. Vets dont want to see animals suffer and many are very willing to help owners out.

Good luck!
