I just started working night shift on a military base and have run across many homeless cats, which I leave food for when I can, but 3 nights ago I ran across a mother with a family of kittens (around 5 weeks old)and have been going back each night since and leaving them food.

I will only be working nights for 3 more weeks, so my question is if I leave food for them regularly for 3 weeks will the kittens not develop their hunting and survival instincts?

AM I doing more harm in the long run in terms of their ability to hunt for mice etc..?
(Breaks my heart, what can I do)?

Thanks, Ty

In the end you are doing more harm than good in a few ways.
The problem with feeding feral cats is that you are encouraging the population growth. Feral cats are the cause of the drop in native bird species in most countries in the world.
I know it is cruel and harsh but you are best off not feding them. If you want to help them catch them and have them neutered at around 6 months. Then you will be doing your bit to make sure the feral population doesn't grow so quickly.
As for them not learning to hunt? They will do that anyway the mother will make sure off it.
