My mom found a kitten outside by her car when starting for work this morning. We just moved here about 3 months ago and have really been wanting a pet. Only problem is this kitten looks well..not normal. I'm thinking it has some kind of mouth defect. It just doesn't look normal. It is so skinny I think someone noticed the defect and just tossed it out. I'm trying to get it back to health but I'm afraid I may be going for a hopeless battle. The kitten seems fine..I mean it's trying to play with my brothers but they are kinda freaking out because of how it's mouth looks. I warmed up some milk for it and it drank all of it so it doesn't seem to be in pain. Yet it's like it's bottom jaw isn't attatched and it has some kind of deformity of it's lower lip. I just wonder if there is anything I can do..I need some opinions because I've never done this before. Does anyone know of anything that I can do for it (taking to vet is sadly out of the question) or should I just try to keep myself and my younger brothers from getting too attatched to the poor thing?

you could try talking to your local humaine society just tell them you don't have the money for the vet. or you could call a vet some places will give advice over the phone for free.is the kitten bleeding anywhere?if so the cat will need vet care and you would probably need to surrender it to the local shelter.i know it would be hard to do but they can help the cat and find it a good home.good luck i hope everything works out for you and your kitten.

Thanx..no there is no blood..I think it's just a birth defect. I did call a few vets in this area..and they told me if the kitten could eat then he may make it just to be sure to get a wormer just in case. The kitten is eating REALLY good and I've been heating up some milk for him like the vet recommended..I know this sounds mean and I'm sorry to offend anyone I also really love cats but the defect does make him look a little icky but I'm getting over that..and I think he's really blending in with the family already. So far it's going good..I'm still worried about the little guy though.

If the kitty is acting fine, doesn't appear to be in pain when you touch its mouth and is eating and drinking fine, maybe it's just a deformity and just needs a home with unconditional love?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too now. I think he really loves the attention he is now getting..he's being passed around between my brothers and I. He's eating fine and seems to be playful. It's just he has NO bottom lip and his bottom jaw disconnects from the bottom of his mouth. I have never seen anything like that before. He doesn't seem to be in any pain..he is purring like crazy so I think he's going to be ok. Thanx for everyone's input!!

Well, it sounds like the lil' darlin has finally found a good home where loving people such as yourself have accepted him no matter what he looks like. Give him a hug-n-kiss for me and keep up the good work. If he's eating and drinking and continuing to play with you and your brothers - he'll be just fine. Thanks for sharing your story with us and keep us posted - I love hearing stories like this. Best wishes to you and your new family member!

Hey again just thought I'd give all an update because I'm really beginning to think the lil guy is going to make it. I named him Oreo because he's black & white. Although he is still extremely skinny he is eating very well. My mom suppost to be trying to find some kitten food with a lot of vitamins because I am sure he needs them. I got up this morning to go check on him and he was out on the porch curled up on the towel I gave him. He is so cute. I'm beginning to overlook his defect. I was so concerned earlier because I was afraid it was going to cause him to not survive, but after having him for 24 hours and noticing his extremely playful behavior I think he's going to be fine. He was chasing me this morning and biting (playfully). So, I'm thinking since he's not behaving like he's sick or in any pain then he will be ok. He purrs louder and more than any cat I've ever been around.
