By my other post, I've already established I have a "special" kitty. We're supposed to be getting a new puppy the week after next and I'm also worried about this as "Nestle" is small enough at five weeks old to fit in the palm of your hand and will only weigh in at 6 pounds when she's full grown (chihuahua). Sage loves his toys, even more the ones that squeak when he pounces on them. I introduced him to dogs when I first moved out, but that was almost a year ago and he was much smaller than the dogs were. I've been joking with my mom that Sage will love his new "mouse toy" when she brings Nestle home, but I am seriously worried that he's going to ambush the puppy and hurt her. He is a big cat, 15 pounds before he went on his diet, maybe 12 now. I don't have to worry about the claws, but his teeth and weight alone would be enough. Any ideas on how to introduce them so she doesn't get hurt (yes, I realize I should normally worry about him too, but she's been brought up around cats)? I'm going to be around them all day, but I'm getting surgery the week after Nestle comes and I won't be able to break up any fights between them or even keep one or the other on my lap to keep them seperated and I can't lock either up because Sage can open doors that are locked even.

Hello again - well my suggestion would be to introduce something of Nestle's to Sage first that has her smell on it like a toy, blanket or something she has spent a lot of time with. Bring it home to Sage to introduce her scent to him. Let him get used to it so he's not totally unprepared that someone new is coming. If you can get a towel or blanket that she sleeps on all the time - put it near sage's bed or a spot where he lays down a lot. This spot of Sage's is called a "sanctuary spot" as I like to call it - and if he's introduce to this "new guy" smell next to his most treasured spot of sanctuary, you're less likely to have a brawl when Nestle gets too close to Sage's territory. Hope this helps>
