My brother took in a pregnant stray cat.He also has a dog,,they got along fine till she had her kittens. Now the cat will attack the dog even if the dog is nowhere near the kittens.
Today the cat really attacked, attached it's self to the dogs face,,my brother got it off many times ,only to have the cat attack again. He cou;dn't even grab the cat.

Could it be she only tring to protect the kittens??or does he need to get rid of one,,the dog is terrified of the cat, and just backs up when attacked.
I have 4 cats and 2 dogs and have NEVER seen this,,,HELP!!!

Some time ago I rescued a cat with 2 young kittens and she was pregnant again. I did not have a dog at that time but I did have another cat. I had to keep her in a seperate room because she would constantly try to attack my other adult cat. Once her kittens were a bit older...she calmed down alot and I was able to allow her free roam of the house without her attacking my other cat but them she had her next litter and I had to go thru the same thing all over again. I always kept the kittens in a seperate room so my other cat was no where near them when she acted as if she wanted to kill him.
My advice is to just keep the mother seperated from the dog until her kittens are older or until they are rehomed and by then she should stop feeling so threatened by the dog.

i agree with nern the mother thinks she's protecting her kittens i've had cats all my life and every female that had kittens was very protective of her children(with other animals). try putting the mother and the kittens in another room until they get a little older and then the mom won't have to worry about her babies safety.
