My 7 year old Siamese mixed breed cat has been sick with coughing and sneezing. The vet thought it was an upper respritory infection at first. He was given an antibiotic. After a week he got sicker. His coughing went away but he started sneezing nonstop which was followed by breathing problems.
The vet said he possibly has an inner ear infection that has affected his brain because his eyes quiver from side to side. I researched this online and found out that quivering eyes (nystagmus) is a common trait in Siamese breeds. Does anyone know if this is true?
My daughter is devistated because she thinks the cat is going to die from a brain defect after just losing another cat to luekemia 6 months ago. (The vet says this cat is showing no symptoms of having luekemia.) The cat is now being treated for the infection with a stronger antibiotic and steroid shot. Has anyone else had a cat with a similar diagnosis?

According to my vet, yes. I have a siamese mix and when I took her to the vet for the first time my vet was talking about the quivering eyes in Siamese cats. Sorry, I don't have any advice for you about the rest of your post...hopefully some else can help.

If you can rid of the underlying infection I wouldn't really worry about the quivering eyes. You are right in thinking alot of siamese cats suffer from this and I don't think it affects them in any great way. Though you may have to think about keeping her in if her eyesight becomes bad.
