My 5 week old kitten has sores above the left eyelid and on the side of the nose. There is a blister like spot under his mouth. He has a fever of 104 and not much energy. He was eating well until the fever returned. He just came home yesterday from an overnight stay at the vet for fever 105 and lethargy. He was rehydrated and given amoxicillin for infection and albon for fever reduction. Things were nearly back to normal until this morning when the fever returned. Please let me know if anyone knows about these symptoms or how to reduce fever until vet help can be attained. Thanks so much. Zia

Sorry to hear about you cat feeling so poorly. I'm glad to hear that you have taken the right steps thus far by going to the vet. As for the fever - usually medications given by the vet are your best bet for reducing fever. As for what you can do at home - make sure you don't try anything drastic like wrapping kitty in ice or ice packs. This can send kitty into shock and is dangerous. Try slowly bringing the fever down by giving kitty cold water to drink or throw some ice cubes in the water dish. This can help the fever from the inside. As for the sores - this could be from any number of things ie fleas, skin rash, or an allergic reaction to its food or something it has come into contact with and kitty is scratching and making the sores. Did your vet suggest any bloodwork that should be done? Your kitty could have caught a virus or could be having internal problems with kidneys, pancreas, liver etc. Not to scare you, but a high fever is a sign of infection from something and bloodwork should be done. Thanks for the response. I took the kitten back to the vet yesterday. The fever was still 104 and another antibiotic was prescribed, along with the amoxicillin. I have been giving him Pedialyte, 3cc every 4-5 hrs., and he has not become dehydrated. A patch on his back leg looked suspecious and a skin and hair sample was sent to the lab to be tested to rule out ringworm! Antifungul spray was also prescribed. The "sores" on the face are most likely bites and scratches from another cat or animal that have abcessed. Neosporin was prescribed for a light covering twice daily and they are just beginning to heal now. The kitten is eating, playing, sleeping, taking all meds, still getting Pedialyte and the fever is going down. It has gone up and down for nearly 5 days (103-105) so am praying that this time it will continue on a downward trend and remain at the normal temperature. Again, thank you so much for taking time to reply. At that posting, I was really desparate.

Hope your kitty gets better soon, try bathing his wounds in weak tea. It is a natural antiseptic and soothing. It will at least make your cat more comfortable while you are waiting for the meds to kick in.

My little kitten is doing so much better. The sores (wounds) are now healing nicely (thanks for the "tea" suggestion), and his temp is between 101 and 101.5 for two consecutive days now. He is running all over the place and eating like he is starved! Thanks so much.

So glad to hear Kitty is doing better - that's terrific! Keep up the good work! Sounds like things will hopefully be back to normal shortly. Fever's back to normal - thats great. Good job.
