I have a 19 year old cat...Tom. Within the last couple of weeks, his health has gone downhill. The first problem that developed is this "eye goup" that comes out of both eyes. The vet ran tests (all came up negetave for everything) and gave him eye cream. It helped a little, but his right eye always has the goup in it still.

The second problem that just started is that he is rapidly losing his fur. The fur on his chest is all matted. And he has lost almost all the fur on the insides of his legs.

The only problem that the vet found is that he was dehidrated. I find this hard to believe because he drinks tons of water.

If Tom is dehydrated but is drinking a lot of water, there must be an organic problem - kidney or thyroid, or something else. He's an old cat and organs can wear down at that age. I'm surprised the vet hasn't helped you more. I would definitely try another vet, or ring your one and ask for clearer answers (after all, you've paid him).

Also the fur - just a thought, could he possibly have fleas? If not, that could be a thyroid problem too, or something else.

The eyes too -- these could all be symptoms of some underlying condition that could be treatable with the right medication. I really don't think your vet has given you enough information.

The fur loss, goopy eyes, and weight loss could all be part of an allergy if all other tests were negative. They can develop allergies just like we do. Fleas could be a culprit, maybe a recent food switch. I would say to call your vet back and see what they have to say. If you're still not happy contact another one.
