My poor boy got bitten by what I'm guessing was a dog 2 days ago. They appeared to be just scabs, and he was sore and itchy, but tonight he just licked all the hair off in a fit and it is grossly clear that one is abcessed! It ruptured, so I cleaned it with peroxide and soap and put neosporin on it. He is exhausted but still obviously miserable and they are really bothering him.
Is there any pain relief around the house I can give him till the vet opens? Also, I am pretty broke right now and will care for it at home if possible. Do all abcesses need antibiotics and vet attention??

What a nasty experience. You can give a human pain killer to animals in a small quantity but I can't remember if it's baby aspirin or codeine. Someone else here may know, or do a Web Search yourself for animal pain killers or similar. Or ring any vet and ask them. They should tell you over the phone.

If the abscess has burst that's good, but the wound will need treatment. Keep disinfecting it as you're doing (peroxide with water, and so on) even gentle bathing with mild salt water (1/4 teaspoon to cup of water). If the wounds don't improve they may need antibiotics.
