I have an 7 year old cat that just had surgery and will not eat on his own. My husband and I have to "force feed" him with a syringe. He had the surgery because it was thought he had something caught in his throat or small intestine that was causing him to vomit. The surgery found nothing. It hasn't been a week since the surgery, so maybe he's still trying to get over the trauma of it, but could use any sugestions anyone might have. We have to get him to eat at least 200 calories a day. IP: Logged |

Hi Read the posts called 'Cat' and 'Cat ate bow ties' (or something similar). They cover your frustration and fears well. Hills prescription diet A/D is very good for getting maximum food in small amounts, which is made for cats in this situation. Ask your vet for it. The only thing is you should take time in feeding (often and small amounts) so that your cat has time to swallow the food and dosn't breathe it. Your cat may hate A/D (like mine did), but its the best thing for it. Try tempting your cat to eat on its own by offering small amounts of baby food (meat varity)/cooked chicken/raw steak (anything they normally like ALOT). In the meantime before your cat finally eats on their own, stick with it and remember your cat really needs that food even if they hate you for it. It can be frustrating, but it won't be forever.
