I have a question and I HOPE someone out there can answer it for me. My brothers cat, who is a few years old, very much over weight, always inside the house and fixed; sheds ALL THE TIME. Even though she sheds 24/7 she has so much hair that you can never tell he is loosing it until you see it on the carpet or on your hand after petting. I mean you can pet him and have a whole hand full of hair! Is there somethig she is missing in her diet, (diet ya right, lol, she is HUDGE, any way) my mother wanted me to get on the net and see if their is anything that could stop her shedding. Any one with a house hold remidy? Or professional fact? She has also started something new, she will lick and lick her front paws until they are turning raw, (remember she is a inside cat) Please e-mail me at truely7@hotmail.com Thank you

some cats shed alot, others don't. You can give him a good brush everyday so you don't end up with fur all over your house.
I would also pay some serious attention to his weight problem, you are making him unwell by allowing him to over eat and not get exercise. Get your vet to help you put him on a low calorie diet and make sure you play with him alot so that he starts to get some exercise.
Don't forget cats are like humans being overweight causes them other health problems and it isn't fair on him.

Hi

Use a damp sponge to get cat hair off the furniture and clothes etc. Some cats shed all year and in huge amounts. Actually, the hair growth probally shows your cat is getting everything she needs in her diet.

Your cat needs to lose weight, but DO NOT starve her. Cats need to eat many small meals a day. If you starve him her liver will shut down and she will die (this is especially true of obese cats). Your vet will sell a low energy diet (the last post said this), and you need to change the diet over a period of days by mixing in with the old food, and reducing the old food.

Your cat licking its paws sounds like an anxiety problem. Your cat maybe sick, or just unhappy. She could be unhappy about being overweight, or about being yelled at about being on the furniture.

I suggest you get her checked by the vet to rule out health problems, change her diet, and get her a cat tree for in the main room so that she has some furniture of her own that no one will mind her shedding fur on. Also give her lots of love to reinstate her position in the household as a much loved pet.

Let us know how it works out.
