Hi everyone,
My husband found a kitty in the middle of the road last week. We think it is 5 weeks old. It still cannot lap up water/milk and sucks on its food. We have brought it to the vet because it had mild dehydration.
We have since started giving her water from a small syringe and putting water on her food, making it very moist. Her urine and stools are normal.
How i know is because I have to clean them up from our kitchen floor
She has a litterbox but doesnt seem to know what its for. She will go in and out of it randomly. I try to put her there after she eats but there is a delay and she wont go right then. Ive put her stools in it so that she can know thats where to go. I even found her sleeping in there once.
Im at home all day and play with her. She is sleeping on my lap while I type this. At night she satys in the kitchen because she cant get out...out living room is raised and she is still too small to get up the step easily. Im hoping I can get her to use the box before she can get on carpet.
Please help...any suggestions appreciated.

If your kitten is five weeks old and not in the process of weaning, she is still a little young for using a litter tray. You should be cleaning her bottom with a cotton bud and gently stimulating her to defecate at the same time as the mother would by licking, though it sounds like she is having no trouble in that department.
If you are determined to get her using the litter tray now then the best you can do is keep her in one room and everytime she starts to urinate or deficate pick her up and put her in the tray. Kittens usually get the hang of this pretty quickly when they are ready.
