I just took my 12-year-old Burmese to the vet because we discovered she had severe gum/tooth decay problems, they ended up removing 8 of her teeth!! They also discovered that her kidney function is decreased, which apparently is common in both older cats and Oriental cats. I'm encouraged because she seems much happier since having her mouth fixed, but I worry about the kidney function. They've recommended a special diet, but she won't touch the new food, though I suppose that might change once her gums have healed, I hope so anyway. Is this common? is there anything we can do? will this shorten her life? IP: Logged |
