I have a 5 month old kitten. He was a stray and in very bad condition, underweight and small for his age.
He is looking much better but wants to chew everything, usually me!
This was not a problem until I noticed that he is leaving trails of blood on whatever he chews. Is it possible he is cutting teeth or does he need a trip to the vet?

Isis,
Bleeding gums usually indicates an abscess or gum disease, however, neither of which are common in a cat that young. It could just be that because of his condition prior to you taking him in, he has weak gums- and chewing on everything causes them to bleed. I would suggest having someone else hold him while you gently pull back the sides of his mouth and take a careful look at his teeth and gums (make sure to look on both sides- and don't forget the very back molars- where many abscesses hide.) If you do not see any sores, severe decay, or infected bleeding areas (all of which you should take him to the vet for) you could probably get away with just a phone call to his vet to ask if bleeding after chewing could be normal.
Hope everything works out well!!!
Carrie
