My cat has been losing weight for no reason and I'm worried that he might be sick. I don't really see any other changes in him but the weight loss. Any suggestions?

Hi - I'm sorry your kitty seems like he's losing weight. Weight loss in a cat, no matter how old, almost always indicates illness of some kind. But don't panic yet! It could be a lot of things, some serious and others totally treatable. In cats who are losing weight but otherwise seem normal, (and who are eating normally) often the cause is worms. (caused by fleas). That's happened to a few of my cats over the years. A de-worming would be in order if that's the case.Sounds worse than it is: usually an injection, then wait two weeks, then a second injection and bam, worms gone, cat gains weight back! And flea control thereafter to prevent it in the future.
Sometimes, a thyroid problem causes cats to become even emaciated without showing any other symptoms except extreme weight loss. Again, there is very effective treatment for this, but there is no way to know for sure unless a vet gives him a thorough work-up. Blood tests and urinalysis. So, take him to the vet...(this is, of course usually more traumatic for the owner than the cat!) but don't ignore it.......Keep us posted, or, if you have any more questions, let us know.

Whew! What a RELIEF! I'm so happy it wasn't a serious illness. Thanks for letting us know your kitty is now A-OK.
It also sounds like you have a good, vigilent vet.
