I'm really worried. My partner and I just moved into a shared living situation and our young cat is being very vicious with a 20 year old cat. She is too old to fight back and I don't know how to make my cat stop. When i see him do it, i make a loud noise, but he mostly does this when there is no one there to tell him off. There is no way to seperate them. Any other Ideas would be must appreciated. Thanks

Do you have separate feeding bowls/areas and litter? Aside from making sure that each cat is receiving the same amount of attention and has an area that he/she can feel safe in, you'll probably just have to keep an eye on them when you can and let them work out their relationship. Try to see the whole situation from your cat's perspective. Suddenly s/he is thrown into an entirely new home with a new human and a new cat- on top of that s/he hears a "loud noise" everytime s/he shows her disapproval/concern for the situation. Know that I'm NOT trying to make you feel guilty- I have been in the same situation a couple times and once I started to pick apart everything from my cats' perspectives, things got better! I was in the same position with a kitten and a 7 year old cat. The older cat eventually decided to live about 3 feet off the floor. The got around by jumping on the furniture and crying to be picked up and carried around. The younger cat eventually learned he was gonna "get it" from the older one if he tried to leave his space on the floor. The older cat did lose a lot of hair from the stress though.
