My almost two years old cat has been going through what we thought was heat, because she is not spayed. However, she goes into this"heat" type phase every other week, and pees on clothes and blankets and beds. My roomate has to wash her sheets 1-2 times a week. I have no idea what is wrong with her. Also, she is very attention wanting, and rubs up against everything. The moaning and attention wanting would make sence, but she won't stop peeing all over the place. She sometimes uses the litter box and sometimes not. someone help please! i am a poor college student w/ not enough money to afford a vet right away.I have to save up,
and i'd appriciate some advice on the matter. thank you. -beth
PS:Also--some info to maybe help. We also have two other cats, 8 mos. old each...And my cat w/ the peeing problem(Kazoo) I have caught her in the act peeing on my clothes
and my roomates bed, and she even once peed on my face
while i was laying in my bed! That was horrible. My
roomates chair is also ruined because she peed in it.
We really don'tknow what to do, i love my kat to death,
i donot want to give her up. someone help please - Beth

It sounds to me like she is marking her territory. She may feel threatened by the other cats now because @ 8 months old they too are becoming sexually mature..possibly causing her to "need" to mark her territory. She could also be spraying (females spray too) in an attempt to attract a mate or a combination of both. Im not sure if spaying her at this point would stop her behavior but it might help and is worth a try. You should also consider getting the other two fixed as well to avoid future problems like this with them. There are low cost and sometimes free spay organizations that you could get in contact with to see if they can help you out. I had 2 strays fixed at a low cost clinic for $40 which included rabies & distemper shots and I had 2 other strays done at my local SPCA for $40. Depending on your financial situation and your location you may be able to have it done for free. If you have an SPCA in your area give them a call and you also might want to check out: www.spayusa.org for a list of low cost/free spay/neuter clinics in your area.
Good luck.

well i think you shoud get lots of old sponges, buckets, and look in stores for a black light ,and something called "cattergent". the black light will show you where the cat peed on the walls.

I don't know if it's because she thinks the other cats are competition because they may be becoming sexually mature, because she ADORES the younger cats, and acts like their mom when she isnt. But she pees ons tuff so much, multiple times a day, and augh, but.. i mean she does this constantly, can a cat be in constant heat???

I definitely think you should save up to get your cats fixed. Let alone it isnt healthy for an animal to not be fixed if its not bred. This sounds like a territoy thing and is probably being caused by your 8 month old coming into sexual maturity. I know you said that your cat acts like a mother cat but I have seen mothers trying to get it on with their kids so to speak. So you should definitely consider getting them fixed. There definitely are organizations that do spaying cheaper check it out. Good luck and keep us posted.

Beth,
Although your cat peeing outside the litter box may be an issue of territory (as others have suggested) it could also be a number of other things- unless you can tune into your animals telepathically (as some people can) you and your cats do not speak the same language- peeing is sometimes the only way an animal can get our attention if something is wrong. Examine your daily rituals for any changes that might be frustrating to your cat- change in food or litter, not enough nutrients in food, change in location of food or litter, new people, animals, even a change in furniture arrangements can upset an animal enough to "act out" as a way of telling you they do not approve. Hope things improve. -Carrie
