Hi All,
I need some friendly advice about my 2 yr.old altered male cat, who has been lethargic for the past two days. He hasn't eaten or used the litter box. He just wants to lie on his bed. Usually he is up playing with the other 2 housecats that I have. When I pet him, he arises and seems not to want any attention. He has been taken care of by the vet as to his shots etc. in the past. I wondered if his actions now, were something that needed attention. Thank you.

It seems his not urinating or using his litter box as you say is not a good sign, possibly a urinary system problem typical of male cats, age 2 and over, like FUS. They can become toxic quickly within a 24 hr period. I would take him to a vet as you probably need to have him catheterized in order to release the urine withheld. He may have crystal formation causing a blockage. Do his lower sides feel hard/distended? Only a vet will be able to tell upon analyzing and taking the urine/blood specs. Just a thought.....God bless, I hope he feels better soon.

Thanks for responding. Max seems to feel a little better today. He urinated in the litter box this morning, but he has not eaten any food. He scratched the floor around the food dish as though he wanted to cover it up. He barely took a sip of water.
He is moving around a little more--moving from one favorite place to another--whereas the other day, he just lay in one spot all day. Do cats get sore throats?

Yes,cats do get infected throats. It sounds very much as though he is sick with an infection of some sort and may need antibiotics from a vet.

Thanks for the reply. We did take Max to the vet, and after treatment with antibiotics and fluids because he was dehydrated, and 2 overnights in the clinic, he is back home and full of pep as usual. All the tests came back normal, so it must have been a cold.
