My 3 month old kitten insists on howling outside my bedroom door at 6am each morning. They (her and an older cat) have the run of the house during the day, and they get turfed out of the bedroom at about 11pm. However most nights she starts howling, and meowing outside the door at some ungodly hour. We've tried not opening the door until the alarm clock goes off, tried spraying cat behave stuff outside the door, ignoring her, shouting at her to stop - pretty much everything we can think of! She's been doing it for about a month and I need some rest! Any ideas? (the older one is better behaved incidentally :-) IP: Logged |

Hi, What I would do is shut the kitten in a room right away from your bedroom with a litter box, water, some food, and toys and eventually she will get used to it. If the other cat is disturbed too put it in there as well. Believe me they do get used to the routine and might play up a bit, but hopefully you won'thear it. It worked with mine, I put him in the bathroom and also shut my bedroom door, and in the morning puss was purring and happy. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

Sounds like she's in heat, although three months is a bit early for that. Mine started at 6 months. I begged the vet to spay her on the Easter holiday because I couldn't take it any more! She will stop the howling after she's spayed, but you may have to wait until the right age (there is still debate amongst professionals whether or not 6 months is too early to spay). IP: Logged |
