I have a 5 year old female cat. About 4 months ago she pulled a patch of hair from her inner elbow (about 3cm). I attributed it to a change in routine (we needed to close her in the laundryroom for several hours- her favorite room- with food, water and litter). We never needed to to that again, and the spot disappeared. In the past 3 weeks she's been pulling hair off her back, between her "haunches". I've seen her groom there, otherwise I wouldn't believe she could even reach there. Anyway, the skin appears relatively normal there-pearly white without excoriation or flaking...and no sign of fleas (she's an inside cat with a dog that is regularly Frontlined). Now she's developed some bleeding as a result of this pulling of hair. Is there anything I can apply to discourage this pulling? Any reason for this behavior? She doesn't do any abnormal amount of scratching or hair-pulling when I'm around. I'd appreciate any advice!

A few months ago I had a similar situation with one of mine. He had pulled his hair out so badly over the course of a few weeks that his back legs were almost completely bald. I checked him for fleas and didnt find any. I also have dogs that are treated regularly with Advantage and the cats are indoors only. To my suprise...the cause was fleas. The vet used a flea comb and found a few on him. I treated him and the other cats with Advantage and his hair has almost all grown back in. So even if your dog is being treated with Frontline I highly recommend you treat the cat also and see if that stops her from pulling out her hair. People can carry fleas into the house too.
