My 5 year old cat Floyd has recently started getting small sores that started on the small of his neck, and have begun to spread outward to his sides and back. Around the area where the sores appeared to begin, he has lost fur, and it isn't seeming to grow back very fast. Our family recently acquired a puppy from our local church, and while Floyd and the puppy do not seem to get along well, they stay away from each other for the most part. I don't know what could be causing this to happen, and any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure this cat doenst have fleas? Could the puppy causing the sores on the cat or maybe the cat is self mutilating herself because of the stress of the new puppy.

There is also a possibility it could be ringworm. Ringworm looks like bald scabby areas that most often appear around the neck and face. If you, or anyone you know, has a black light, you can hold the cat underneith the light and if the spots glow then its ringworm.

My kittys have the same problem. Actually the older cat started with sores on body, and now my other one has them. i just cant afford to keep taking them to vet. I gave one away to someone who can afford to care for him, now i have the other one, and am trying to find out whats wrong. He has a big sore on him. Hair missing around it.
Does anybody know what i can do to treat it?

Hi FelineFriend and My Cat,
If there are several sores then it's a condition that needs treating all right, but with the right treatment. As another said, it could be ringworm (which needs vet treatment or it can spread to humans), it could be mange( again, serious), it could be due to fleas and an allergy to them. Anyway, if the skin is broken, there will also be an infection, which needs treating.

Using a mild solution of salt water (about half a teaspoon to a pint)could help the infection, but not the cause, and you need to find out the cause. Only a vet can really do that.
