We have had our cat for about 4 years. She was a stray cat and turned into a lap cat. We love her very much. One thing, she talks (meow's) 90% of the time she is awake. I have only heard her purr once or twice. However, I feel her purring all the time when she is in my lap which is most of the time I'm home sitting down. Just wondering if anyone else has run across a cat like this. My husband jokes that she never learned to purr out loud.

We found our cat silver in the alley, and she also meows at us non stop. She is a great lap cat and almost seems human! She nips me when I'm sleeping, just to remind me to keep petting her.She too meows as if she's talking to us.We hear her, waking us up at 3:00 in the morning or so.I was wondering, have you experienced this in your life? And by the way, I'm 8 years old.
I'm hoobens daughter BBsan.

My mom's kitty never meows or purrs outloud ever. We thought that she was mute, however, she did meow once when she was in the car going to the vet for the first time. She has never purred outloud but we can feel her vocal chords in her throat moving and feel her body purring. She's 1 1/2.

I adopted my old girl form the shelter when she was just under two years old. I had her for about four years before I first heard he purr. It was the rustiest purr I'd ever heard, but tears rolled down my cheeks because I knew she finally accepted me and our home.

Now she is 14 and hardly ever stops purring. Talks a lot too. How I wish I could speak her language. Consider yourself lucky. Your kitty sees you as a colleague (notice I didn't say EQUAL - you will never achieve that status and she knows it!) and wants to share things with you. She's got questions, opinions, and needs that MUST be met, and wants to make sure you're not missing any of it. Try meowing back - it's great fun and can go on for hours (it's also a fabulous bonding experience).
