We went for a followup on my kitten's heart murmur (he's 11 weeks old). My vet listened to it and is pretty sure it isn't an "innocent" murmur and is referring us to a kitty cardiologist. She gave it a 5/6 rating. That scares me to death. He's just a baby! He goes nonstop - back and forth throughout the house, full speed, so it's hard to believe he even has a murmur like that! Please wish us luck and say lots of kitty prayers for Roscoe when we visit the cardiologist. IP: Logged |

He was diagnosed with a hole in his heart and a mitral valve defect. They're hoping the hold will close as he grows, but the mitral valve defect may affect him later. We just have to keep watch on him and get regular checkups. Thanks for the followup reminder! Wish us luck. IP: Logged |

My cat has also been diagnosed with a heart murmur at four months. We were recommended to a cardiologist but do to lack of fund are unable to fork out the 500 dollars neccessary. Did going to the cardiologist help? Once they found it was the mitral valve, how did that change the approach? How is your cat doing now?? IP: Logged |

Are heart murmurs linked to genetics? A friend of mine asked and I don't know. Her Vet said that her kitten has a heart murmur that is not serious and will let it live a full life. I am trying to learn more about it. IP: Logged |
