I have taken in my friends cat. he is a little over a year old. She owned it from a kitten..and it used to pee and poo behind things and on the furniture. she never realized it for months til the smell got so bad we had to look. She then could no longer take care of it since she was moving to a no cat house, so her other friend took it in. he would pee, etc on her bed, in the box of unused litter and when he uses the litterbox he will miss almost always if it is a poo(he does it here too)..he can pee perfectly in the litter box tho. Anyways he is neutered and was found to have a bladder infection about 6 months ago, which was treated..and he stopped peeing on her stuff. But then he would start it again a few weeks later on and off. he moved to another house for afew weeks and i think there was 1 incident of peeing in wrong places. Now that he is here..he has been here for about 3 weeks..he seemed to be fine..he would miss the litter box but wouldnt pee anywhere else but there. Then this morning i noticed something. My backpack on the floor covered in pee (but it was dried) and had crystal formations on it. There is also a box beside it with shoes in it..and i smelled in there and pee is also in there. I have a 5 month old kitten and i noticed lately she is peeing in the unused box of litter. Im sure since the pee on my bag was dry and it completely reeks that it has been peed on alot but i havent noticed. I am scared that my baby kitten (its a girl) will pick up this problem because he is doing it..i dont know if she is joining in yet or not, (i have seen her hanging ontop of the box of shoes)i know that she peed in the unused litter. I keep thier litter boxes clean...i clean them twice a day..so it isnt the messy litter box. What is up here? hes only here for a week more, but i know he will do it again. I put him outside for now and i want him gone...i am just wondering..what could be wrong? why wont he stop? and will he ever???? is there a chance my kitten will do the same problem after he is gone because she smells his or sees him do it? how will i stop her from doing it? i febreezed the area and cleared out all that was peed on...what else can i do? im just very upset..the cat will need to go....my boyfriend will not be pleased since it peed on his hoickey gloves, shoes, etc IP: Logged |

Why did you take this cat in when you obviously don't want it? You said you "want rid of it"???? This kitty obviously has something wrong and you're just worried about getting it off your hands? Maybe part of the kitty's problem is that it is constantly being shuffled around between homes. IP: Logged |

Lacey, there are some cats that just won't and don't ever learn solidly to use a litter box. And yes, another cat can pick up their habits. I have a patient whom I home health and she has about 6 cats that are adults and do this under her bed and couch and aside the box, not in it. It's noticeable even from outside the house! You can try using a particular litter I have seen at Petsmart by a Dr Easley, something like that, esp for problem cats. And behavior modification should you see him doing it, like spraying him with water or shaking dry beans in a can and a firm "no". There is a common occurrence in neutered male cats, esp over age 2, to have urinary problems and so their diets must be strict, like my guys, using foods such as Hill's Prescription and/or Purina One Special Diet for example. If no infection/crystals, and the habit continues, sorry, I have to agree, cat cannot live indoors unless in a kennel! And really, that's no life. Also, neutered cats can spray, another learned trait, and he probably is doing that as well to mark his territory. Love of an animal is one thing, but it does become an overwhelming one when the house wreaks no matter how diligent you are. Best wishes now. IP: Logged |

thank you for replying...we ended u[p taking the cat to the vet..the brand of cat food (purina) ended up almost killing him. His bladder turned to rock..but he is better now and with his origional owner (like he should have been) he is happy again and i am too. My kitten is not peeing anywhere..im so glad. And for gretchen...i dont appreciate u twisting my words and making me feel like im evil..it not my fault the cat is been moving around. I did the favor for my friend not the cat. i loved the cat but when it pees on my stuff i do not. moving is not the problem. He moves well and doesnt get mad when he is and copes well to it. hes had this pee problem since he was born basically..so its not moving that does this. IP: Logged |
