I have a cat that's 10 years old. She has a small spot on the top of her ear where the fur is gone and just above her eye there is a bigger spot where the fur is falling out and what looks like an age spot, but I'm not really sure thats what it is. I'm not sure if this is just a natural part of ageing or something that i need to be concerned about. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks!!!

Many cats, particularly short-haired ones, develop
areas on and around their ears, and between their
ears and "eyebrow" whiskers as they age. For some
cats this is a very normal process. However, it
could also be symptomatic of a skin disease, or
an allergy, such as an allergy to flea bites.

Do the areas seem irritated at all? Is the kitty
scratching there? If the cat seems otherwise
"normal," there is probably nothing to worry about -
however, it is always best to have your pet checked
by a vet, should it develop new behaviors or if its
appearance changes. Kitties, especially older ones,
need to visit the vet at least once a year anyway,
to get a check-up, their shots, and to schedule
things that may be needed, such as dental cleaning.
