I have a green singer canary named Gershwin. He is two years old and is molting something awful...he is almost bald on the back of his little head...is there something I should be doing for him extra? He is not singing, which I know they don't do during the molt..but man..poor baby..he is loosing feathers like crazy...should I give him something..maybe some boiled eggs or something? Here are a couple of stories I have written about my canaries. http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/pup3/caruso.html http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/pup3/vivaldi.html I love Gershwin and am worried about him. I know it stresses them to take them to the vet...He is the best singer I have ever had...Thanks, Robin IP: Logged |

I'm not too keen on birds and don't have much knowledge on them, but stress can induce severe molting as well as lack of activities. Boredom. Is it also possible that he's just going througha major molt?
Even though the bird may get stressed about the vet, you should still take it in. Just because your child doesn't like getting shots doesn't mean you shouldn't take them. It's called being a parent IP: Logged |

Actually the bird vet said not to bring him in, that it would stress him. He was just going through a hard molt and is now back on top of his perch singing away...thanks so much for your concern and help! IP: Logged |
